Yes. Sign up at platform.openai.com. Note that the API is pay-as-you-go; you must add a minimum balance (usually $5–$10) in Settings > Billing to activate your API keys.
For the CXAigent to work securely and at maximum speed, you need to provide an OpenAI API key. We highly recommend using a Restricted Key rather than a key with “All” permissions. This follows the “Principle of Least Privilege” and ensures that if your key is ever accidentally exposed, your OpenAI account and billing remain completely safe.
Here is the exact checklist of permissions you need to select when creating your restricted key:
These are the minimum permissions required for the chat widget to function, remember conversations, and keep your bot safe from spam.
Model capabilities: Write (or Request)
Why you need it: This is the core engine. It allows the plugin to send chat messages to OpenAI and receive the AI’s responses.
List models: Read
Why you need it: This allows your WPAI admin dashboard to securely fetch the list of available models (like GPT-4o or GPT-4o-mini) so you can select which one you want to use.
Moderations: Request
Why you need it: This powers our built-in security layer. It allows the plugin to use OpenAI’s free moderation tool to scan and block offensive or malicious user messages before they cost you any AI tokens.
Responses: Write
Why you need it: This powers the modern, ultra-fast chat engine. It allows the AI to stream responses to your users with zero delay and remember the context of the active conversation.
If you are training the AI on your own website data or documents to create a custom Knowledge Base, you must also enable these:
Files: Write
Why you need it: Allows the plugin to securely upload your scraped website data to your private OpenAI account so the bot can read it.
Vector Stores: Write
Why you need it: Allows OpenAI to index your uploaded files into a lightning-fast, searchable database. This is what allows the AI to retrieve accurate answers from your company data instantly.
To maximize security, ensure everything else on the list is set to None.
Do NOT enable: Assistants, Threads, Prompts, Fine-tuning, Batch, or Evals. The WPAI Assistant does not need these, and leaving them disabled prevents anyone from altering your core AI instructions or accessing other parts of your OpenAI account.
Pro Security Tip: Set a Monthly Limit! Even with a restricted key, you should always protect your wallet. Immediately after creating your API key, go to your OpenAI Dashboard’s Billing > Limits section. Set a hard “Monthly Budget” (e.g., $10 or $20). This guarantees you will never receive an unexpected bill, even if your website gets a massive spike in traffic.
Absolutely. Your keys are stored on your own server using AES-256-CBC encryption, meaning they are never exposed to unauthorised parties.
Think of the System Prompt as the employee handbook and job description for your AI.
Because CXAigent connects to OpenAI’s massive, general-knowledge brain, it knows a little bit about everything. The System Prompt focuses that brain. It tells the AI exactly who it is, who it works for, what tone of voice to use, and, most importantly, what it is not allowed to talk about.
Without a prompt, the bot might act like a generic AI assistant. With a great prompt, it becomes a dedicated, expert sales agent or support rep for your specific business.
How to Add Your Prompt in CXAigent
Setting up your AI’s brain takes less than a minute.
Step 1: Log in to your WordPress Admin Dashboard.
Step 2: In the left-hand menu, click on CXAigent to open the plugin settings.
Step 3: Navigate to the General Settings.
Step 4: Look for the large text box labeled AI Personality & Instructions. Select from the dropdown templates or create your own.
Step 5: Type or paste your instructions into the box.
Step 6: Click Save Changes. Your AI will immediately adopt this new persona for all future chats!
Go to CXAigent > General and paste your OpenAI API Key and Prompt ID into the settings fields.
Navigate to CXAigent > Pro Features in your WordPress sidebar. Paste your Lemon Squeezy license key into the field and click Activate License. A green “Active” badge will confirm success.
If you have the Pulse or Nexus plan, upload and activate the CXAigent-woo-commerce.zip file just like the core plugin.
Yes. Under the Styling tab, you can set the Agent Name, Subtitle, Primary Brand Colors, and upload a custom Avatar image.
Enable Weekly Auto-Sync in the Pro tab to ensure the CXAigent automatically learns about new pages or posts every 7 days.
Yes. We use Data Masking for WooCommerce. The AI only accesses order status and items; it never sees sensitive customer addresses or payment details.
CXAigent uses Strict Guardrails. The AI is “grounded” to your uploaded data, meaning it will only answer based on the facts you have provided, preventing “hallucinations.”
Nexus users have access to Total White-Labeling. You can remove all “CXAigent” logos, rename the plugin in the sidebar, and replace footer links with your own agency URL.
Use the Client ROI Analytics dashboard to show clients exactly how many leads were captured, what questions were asked, and how much revenue was generated.
